Palm Beach is one of our favourite suburbs to work in, because the results are so obvious. A lot of the housing stock is original beachside homes with terracotta tile roofs that have been sitting in salt air for decades, and terracotta responds dramatically to a proper soft wash — it comes back to a warm red that most owners had forgotten was under there. There's also a wave of renovation through the suburb, and a clean roof makes an enormous difference to how a renovated house presents.
Salt doesn't just sit on the surface — over time it works into porous terracotta and shows up as white efflorescence alongside the organic growth. Removing both is what takes an old Palm Beach roof from grey-green back to red. This is genuinely the suburb where we see the biggest visual change.
There's very little between Palm Beach and the open ocean. Salt-laden air settles on everything and holds moisture against the surface, which is exactly what mould, lichen and algae need to establish. Everything here fouls faster than it would a few kilometres inland.
Palm Beach has been steadily upgrading for years. If you're renovating or preparing to sell, exterior cleaning is the cheapest presentation win available — a soft washed roof and house can make a place look freshly rendered for a fraction of what painting costs.

Probably not. Forty years of growth and salt on terracotta looks hopeless and usually isn't — the colour underneath is intact, it's just buried. We'd rather look at it and tell you honestly than have you replace a roof that only needed washing.
