Biggera Waters is one of our closest suburbs and one we're in constantly. Sitting on the Broadwater means the same salt exposure as an ocean-front suburb, and the housing mix — low-set brick and tile homes, townhouses and a lot of unit blocks — means we do everything here from single driveways through to full body corporate complexes.
The Broadwater generates the same salt-laden air as the open beach. It settles on glass, render and roofing and holds moisture against those surfaces, which is what gets mould and algae started.
Much of the older housing here is single-storey brick with a tile roof. Those roofs are usually easy and safe to access, which makes them straightforward to soft wash — and they respond really well, because tile holds staining that lifts dramatically once it's treated.
