Labrador is about as local as it gets for us. Sitting on the Broadwater means full salt exposure, and the suburb's mix of established low-set homes, duplexes, unit blocks and a lot of timber fencing means we end up doing a bit of everything here — house washes, roofs, fences, driveways, and body corporate common areas.
People sometimes assume being on the Broadwater rather than the surf means less salt. It doesn't. The water is tidal and open, and the air carries the same salt load that gets mould and algae going on render, roofing and glass.
Labrador has plenty of timber paling fencing, and timber is where you really see the difference. Fences go grey and green from moisture and shade, and because timber can't take high pressure without furring up, they need a low-pressure approach and the right detergent. Done properly they come back to natural timber.
Much of the suburb has been there a long time, with mature planting throwing shade across roofs, walls and side paths. Shaded surfaces stay damp longer after rain, which pulls the cleaning cycle forward.

Yes, and it's worth being careful about. High pressure tears up the timber grain and leaves it furry. We drop the pressure right down and let the detergent do the work, which is the same principle as soft washing a house.
